BOISE, ID ' The Saint Alphonsus Health System and HealthTeacher are proud to announce the Idaho State Department of Education has adopted HealthTeacher as an accepted health education curriculum for the state of Idaho. Saint Alphonsus Health System first brought HealthTeacher to Idaho by providing the curriculum to teachers in Ada County as a free health education resource. Teachers in Meridian, Joint School District No. 2, and Boise School District have had access to the comprehensive K-12 online health education curriculum since the beginning of the year.Saint Alphonsus Health System hopes to expand the program into other parts of their service area.
The Idaho Adoption Process provides review and evaluation of new curricular materials, according to their six year adoption cycle. Materials are screened for content, organization, presentation and quality. This process maintains local control in choice of instructional materials by providing approved listings of materials in subject areas. All state approved materials are under contract for the length of the adoption cycle, ensuring availability of quality materials. HealthTeacher is an adopted curriculum through 2016.
"Teachers across Ada County have a great opportunity to use and integrate HealthTeacher lessons in their classrooms," says Lori Gash, curriculum coordinator of Health at Meridian, Joint School District No. 2. "HealthTeacher's approval as an adopted health education curriculum is exciting and will give our teachers added confidence when utilizing their resources in the classroom.
