Sixteen years have passed since Margaret Pelleteri lost her teenage son to suicide. She hasn't "moved on," but she has found comfort by reaching out to those affected by suicide.

Pelleteri and other parents of suicide recently shared their coping tips with CNN. For some, counseling was the key to regaining their lives. For others, support groups, whether in-person or online, have played a key role in their recovery.

Every year, 33,000 suicides occur in the United States, according to the National Institute of Mental Health, and an estimated 12 to 25 attempted suicides occur per every suicide death. It's also one of the leading causes of death among young people ages 15 to 24.
