On the heels of a report earlier this month that there has been an 88 percent reduction in the calories sent to schools by beverage makers since 2004, Pepsi announced this week that it would stop distributing full-calorie soft drinks in schools worldwide.

Under the company's new policy, schools for younger kids would get only bottled water, juices in certain portion sizes, and low-fat or skim milk. Schools for older children will still receive diet soft drinks. Sports drinks will also be banned under the company's new policy, except in situations "when physical activity is carried out -- in special relation to sports, not for everyday use," Derek Yach, senior vice president of global health policy for PepsiCo., told NPR.
