Kids who exercise just one hour at a moderate level each day can make a noticeable impact on their heart health, according to a new study from England.
Of the 20,000 children who were observed for the study, those who exercised more than 35 minutes a day weighed less, and had lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol, lower blood sugar and lower triglycerides than those kids who exercised less than 18 minutes a day.
"We demonstrated that higher levels of physical activity of at least moderate intensity -- equal to brisk walking -- are associated with [improving] many cardiovascular disease risk factors, regardless of the amount of time these children spent sedentary," says study author Ulf Ekelund.
