Childhood Food Choices Found to Predict Eating Disorders

Researchers at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center have discovered a link between what preteen girls eat and their likelihood of developing an eating disorder later on. After studying the food choices of 800 girls, some as young as 9 years old, researchers determined that a diet high in carbohydrates and very low in fat at age 15 was a good predictor of developing eating disorder symptoms by age 19. This was particularly true for girls who considered themselves perfectionists.

Experts say these findings are important, because they mean that doctors and parents can focus on preventing eating disorders, which, according to HealthDay, are notoriously difficult to treat.
